Blue jeans, sock-hops and drive-in movies: the Fifties were America's "age of innocence." But stalking the depths of its post-nuclear bliss, mass paranoia became fuel for Joseph McCarthy's brand of "Red Scare" terror propaganda. Bomb shelters were a deluxe feature in every American home, government-sponsored educational reels promised an imminent nuclear threat from across the Atlantic, and Hollywood, Babylon of the western world, hung on the brink of collapse. It was here, in the last-ditch machinations of a dying juggernaut, that a mild-mannered, civil engineer's son would become the most influential force in modern moviemaking. Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel tracks the triumphant rise of Hollywood's most prolific writer-director producer, the true "godfather" of independent filmmaking.

ERIC LINDELL: STORIES FROM THE BLUE GOOSE

Director: Eric Kiel
Director of Photography: Bodie Scott Orman
Editor: Aaron Warzyski

In contrast to pop culture entertainment packaging artists and fast tracking youth to stardom, there are home grown, seasoned musicians that have dedicated their lives to music. Eric Lindell has taken the raw garage band surf scene of his youth, the bluesy stomps and rockin' romps of his years in Manhattan and seasoned it with a decade of true New Orleans blues. Whether he is blowing off the walls of his packed Blues Tent at Jazz Fest, or touring coast to coast in his Blue Goose, he and his soulful smile are earning the appreciation of fans and fellow musicians across the nation one show at a time. Armed with an insane sense of humor, eyes that see the best in others and the motto of "I've got your back," Lindell is a refreshing force to reckon with. This short film captures Lindell in studio recording his latest album, laughing with his close knit crew, and reflecting a bit on life. Join us in experiencing a glimpse behind the scenes with an artist loyal to his family, friends, music, and most importantly himself.

February 26, 2012 - Sun Valley Film Festival Annonces the Festival Lineup

February 23, 2012

The power of film is inherent in the story and the vision of a producer, director, writer and almost any artist who places their thoughts into the filmmaking process. A collaborative art form, film can present ideas and situations unlike any other medium to create change. Film brings every walk of life together on the same page without judgment, and it allows an individual to make decisions on their own about what they see, which can be boiled down to a simple thumbs up or thumbs down.

Independent film is not as accessible as many of the films the general public views, yet it's powerful and, when brought to a community as a festival, can be an exhilarating experience.

The Sun Valley Film Festival launches on March 15-18, 2012 with films that will delight, disturb and provoke a plethora of thoughts and reactions. Documentaries, features, shorts, television programming, web series and a day for children's programming will take over the Sun Valley Opera House and the Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum for our inaugural event. Filmmakers from around the country will descend upon Sun Valley to enjoy a slate of films—many made in Idaho, and several from around the world.

Besides films, we've got parties and events planned, including free coffee talks with filmmakers every morning at the Magic Lantern Cinemas, as well as a variety of awards to honor works that defy the confines of independent cinema when it comes to financing and storytelling. The Vision Award, the One In A Million Award, the Gem State Award and the Sun Valley Film Festival Audience Award will all honor producers and filmmakers whose passion for filmmaking is truly unique.

Join us as we celebrate the magic of film and filmmaking in Sun Valley!

Elephants, poached for their ivory, were among the hardest hit — their population was reduced from more than 2,000 to just over 100. Follow filmmaker Bob Poole and his sister, world-renowned elephant scientist Dr. Joyce Poole, in their unique rehabituation approach: Get off-road and get personal with Gorongosa's giants on their terms. Despite the risks of being charged, they hope their peaceful presence will slowly convince the elephants that people are no longer a threat. Previewing The Sun Valley Film Festival

Ketchum, Idaho (KMVT) "We come in peace." It sounds like a line from a science fiction movie.

Instead, it was the goal behind the film "War Elephants," about 100 out of 2,000 elephants in Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, Africa, who survived a civil war there.

Cinematographer Bob Poole says, "They're scarred, they're emotionally traumatized. So they don't like people well, and the purpose of our project was to try and habituate those elephants back to recognizing that people now come in peace."
